Demonstrations against LLRC proposals continue

On Thursday, people of Kalikakot, Sworek and Chhangchhangdi organised a cultural programme as part of their symbolic protest in Putalibazaar demanding that these areas be included in Bhirkot Municipality.
The residents of Ranbhang are also dissatisfied with the proposal. Some of the villagers of Ranbhang said Putalibazaar Municipality as a centre will not be appropriate for them. The technical committee of the LLRC had proposed five municipalities and six village councils in the district.
In Banke, the technical committee of LLRC has started discussions with the agitated villagers after they protested against the LLRC proposals. People of Hirminiya, Phattepur, Bhagawanpur and Narainapur have been protesting against the LLRC proposals stating that the technical committee and the parties’ representatives did not discuss with villagers before sending the restructuring proposals to the commission. Jibalal Bhusal, coordinator of the technical committee and also Local Development Officer, said the regular works of VDC offices have been affected after the villagers padlocked the offices.
“We have taken recommendations from the political parties before making the decisions,” he said.
People have been picketing District Administration Office and District Development Committee Office demanding restructuring of the local units again. The technical committee of the LLRC had proposed eight local units in the district.
The LLRC has directed the technical committee to modify the restructuring proposals after the locals of Chitwan and Narayani Municipalities and Kabilash reached the commission’s office demanding restructuring of local units again. The commission officials have directed the committee to modify the proposals through discussions within three days. The committee had proposed seven local units in the district.
