Gold price fell by Rs 800 per tola (11.66 grams) over the week, as bullion prices came under pressure in the international market amid surge in demand for US dollar.

Gold price opened for trading on Sunday at Rs 55,000 per tola and rose to a weekly high of Rs 55,400 per tola on Tuesday. This price remained unchanged until Wednesday. 

But the price tumbled to Rs 54,600 per tola on Thursday and further slipped to Rs 54,200 per tola on Friday.

The price of precious yellow metal has been falling since the festival of Tihar. At that time, price of gold stood at around Rs 58,200 per tola.
