Aftershock kills mountain guide

Lakpa Tindu Sherpa, a high-altitude Sherpa guide, died when a small avalanche occurred at the base camp of Mount Amadablam. British mountaineer Ciaran Hill was injured in the incident, according to Deputy Superintendent of Nepal Police Madhav Budhathoki. The avalanche had struck a 13-member expedition team at 5,100 metres above sea level.
The moderate aftershock was recorded at 5:20am along the border of Ramechhap and Solukhumbu districts, according to the National Seismological Centre. The tremor was felt strongly in Kathmandu Valley, waking people up early in the morning. The team was moving from the Second Base Camp to the third while the avalanche hit it, said Shankar Rawat, manager of the Himalayan Guides trekking agency that managed the expedition. He said Sherpa’s body has been kept at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for post-mortem while the British climber is receiving care at the CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center in the Capital.
In Kaski, a house was damaged from the impact of the aftershock. Madan Jeet Mahara, inspector of the Dandako Naak Police Post, said the house belonging to Rudra Mohan Bhattarai of Jaldhare is located in Lekhnath Municipality-4. The building had got cracks during the April earthquake last year.
