Khalanga shut for third day over temple robbery
Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jumla, remained shut for the third consecutive day on Tuesday as the locals took to the streets demanding investigation into Saturday night’s robbery at Chandannath Temple,Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jumla, remained shut for the third consecutive day on Tuesday as the locals took to the streets demanding investigation into Saturday night’s robbery at Chandannath Temple, in which 28 idols, some believed to be as old as 1,400 years, and other valuables were stolen.
The Khalanga locals have demanded that a high-level probe committee should be formed to investigate the case as they suspect involvement of security personnel and members of the temple management committee .
The District Police Office has been criticised for poor handling of the case.
Meanwhile, a police team, led by Additional Inspector General of Police Bigyan Raj Sharma, has arrived in Khalanga for investigation. AIG Sharma has assured to get to the bootm of the case.
