The screenings will be held simultaneously at two venues—QFX Kumari Hall and the Russian Culture Center, in Kamal Pokhari.
The five-day fest will have on offer, according to organisers, “From stories of adventure and adrenalin against difficult and unyielding terrains, to insights into the culture and traditions of mountainside communities and breathtaking scenes of the timeless majesty of nature.”
“These films are fundamentally stories about hope, resilience and humility that will entertain, challenge and inspire audiences,” stated organisers issuing a press note.
The fest will kick off with the Nepali premiere of the Deepak Rauniyar-directorial Seto Surya (White Sun). The film, a narration of a multi-generational story of a family and a community in a bid to reconcile the socio-political shifts in a post-conflict Nepal, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and has travelled to more than a dozen film fests around the world earlier this year.
“We’re extremely proud that one of our own filmmakers is pursuing his passion for film while introducing creative and credible narratives from Nepal to local and international audiences,” said Ramyata Limbu, festival director, referring to Rauniyar’s “homecoming.”
Likewise, the fest will also see the premiere of Daughters of the Curved Moon, a generational perspective on women of remote Jumla. Other notable films being screened during the fest are Mira, the story of Nepali high-altitude runner Mira Rai; A Line across the Sky; Blockade; Hospital; and In Search of Devaki.
Among international films to be screened at the fest are Mi Yohav Oti Achshav (Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?); Bakur (North); and Before the Flood, a documentary on climate change starring Leonardo Di Caprio.
The fest will close on December 12.
