Moksh in Jhamsikhel was abuzz with activity on Saturday, Dec 3 with the co-hosting of two events, the Adventure Film Festival and the 14th iteration of the monthly Art Market.
Organised by Himalayan Outdoor Festival, the adventure film fest saw the screening of 12 short adventure movies, which were part of the annual Adventure Film Festival in Colorado, US. Some of the movies that were screened included, The Art of Recovery, Being Free, Flashes of the Altai and Kid Warrior.
Speaking to the Post about the film fest, co-founder of Himalayan Outdoor Festival, Yelamber Singh Adhikari, said, “We have been organising Himalayan Outdoor Festival for the past five years and the response to it has been great. So, this year, we decided to host the Adventure Film Festival with hopes that it inspires people to experiment with adventure sports. We talked with the organisers of Adventure Film Festival in Boulder and they were very co-operative. I hope that we will be able encourage our audience to explore outdoor sports more after the festival.” He further added, “We live in this amazing country which is a paradise for any adventure sport lover but it is also a sector that is seldom explored by the locals. Our aim with the festival is to bring more people outdoor to explore adventure sports.”
Himalayan Outdoor Festival will be organising a three-day adventure sport festival in March, 2017, which will feature the screenings of original Nepali adventure films, along with music and outdoor sports.
As the first edition of the Adventure Film Festival geared for screenings, the Art Market, which first started in January 2015, was being held simultaneously at the premises.
Speaking about the market and the change in the location, Abishek Kansakar, of the Image Ark—the co-hosts, said, “Art market is a platform for young entrepreneurs, artists and art enthusiasts so that they can come together and create a network. Most of the vendors we have here do not have any outlet and are just starting out, so this is a good opportunity for them to promote their work. And this time we decided to collaborate with the Adventure Film Festival, so that both the events get more exposure.” He added, “The themes of both the events are also similar, providing more exposure to Nepali art, culture and nature, so it is great that we are collaborating in this.”
The market featured handmade guitars, notebooks, shawls, organic oranges, recycled jewelry, books and portraits among others.
