The Chinese Armed Police Force in Khasa opened the Miteri bridge, the link between Tatopani in Sindhupalchok and Khasa in Tibet, for a few hours on Wednesday evening to let in 400 flood-affected families to Khasa, where a relief distribution event was organised.
Nanu Tamang, a social worker, said the Chinese police distributed 250 sacks rice, 50 sacks of other food grains, 12 quintals of salt and 40 set of warm clothes to the elderly citizens. The children were given stationery items.
The relief distribution event was conducted in coordination with the Tatopani Disaster Management Committee.
Some of the flood victims had walked for up to two hours to reach Ramite, Khasa, to receive the relief materials.
Dambar Bahadur Shrestha of Tatopani VDC office said the Chinese side had opened the Miteri bridge only for a few hours to allow in the flood-affected people.
The bridge is closed for maintenance after it suffered damage in the 2015 earthquake.
Flood in Bhotekoshi River on July 5 had destroyed and swept away at least 38 houses, left hundreds of people homeless and damaged the road at Tatopani, Kodari, Dashkilo and Barhabise areas.
