‘Amendment crucial for nat’l unity’

Koirala stressed the need for all major political parties to unite for the sake of ending the current stalemate. “The main opposition CPN-UML has to stop obstructing parliamentary activities and the government too should be ready to amend the bill if that forges consensus,” he said in the Capital on Sunday.
The UML, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Madhes-based forces should be brought on board in a bid to amend the constitution, he said.
“Madhesi Morcha will have to be brought on board through the statute amendment. But if the UML opts to stay out, then implementing the statute is not possible,” he added. “Obstruction of Parliament activities by the UML is wrong. Either
they should be willing to hold dialogue on the matter or should readily accept to put the bill to vote.”
The country will pass through the transition if all major parties left their partisan agendas behind, Koirala said, adding that elections would be possible if the statute is amended through consensus.
