Elections should be the priority: Oli
Chairman of the main opposition CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has urged the government to give priority to holding elections over the constitution amendment.Chairman of the main opposition CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has urged the government to give priority to holding elections over the constitution amendment.
“I wonder why the government is so keen to amend the constitution at a time when the nation needs to hold elections for implementing the new charter,” Oli said during a talk programme organised by the All Nepal National Free Students Union, the party’s student wing, on Friday.
“Constitution could not be amended without any reason. It is high time that the government focused on elections,” he said, insisting that the statute can be amended only for holding the elections.
The former PM said his party was ready to launch a struggle for national integrity, unity, democracy and bringing prosperity. “We won’t tolerate any attempts to jeopardise country’s sovereignty and interference into our internal affairs,” he said.
He suggested the current provision of 33 percent reservation for women should be increased to ensure more rights and opportunities for women. “An increase in women’s participation in every state mechanism will empower them for leadership and responsibility,” said Oli.
On the occasion, UML central committee member Sabitri Bhushal said her party has formulated a code of conduct against violence against women.
