“I hope the Udhauli festival will inspire the entire Nepali community to further deepen the mutual goodwill, fraternal ties and social tolerance existing among them for centuries,” PM Dahal said in his message to the Kirat community that observed the festival with fanfare. “Unity in diversity and stronger social harmony are the special features of the Nepali society. “Udhauli celebrated by the Kirat community, the indigenous people of Nepal, with great enthusiasm and much fanfare carries a significant cultural value,” he added.
Udhauli, which marks the end of harvest season, is observed for 15 days from the full moon day in the Nepali month of Mangsir as per the lunar calendar. The festival also marks the migration of people and birds from highlands towards warmer regions in lowlands to avoid cold. In his message, Similarly, extending his best wishes on the occasion of the festival, former prime minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli underscored the need for unity among the Nepalis.
