Most of the leaders and members of the party are those who opposed the merger between the Sanghiya Samajbadi Party Nepal led by Ashok Rai and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum led by Upendra Yadav to form the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal.
Party Chairman Ansari, who was earlier affiliated to the CPN-UML, announced a 54-member central committee including four office bearers. Bir Bahadur Lama is the senior leader, Raj Kumar Yadav the vice-chairman and Norsang Sherpa the general secretary.
The party claims to have its organisation in 17 districts in the Tarai and 15 in the hills. The party that will follow a socialist ideology has chosen its flag with three stars on a white background, representing the three regions—mountains, hills and the Tarai.
