Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Saturday that the government would table the constitution amendment bill in Parliament on Monday.Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Saturday that the government would table the constitution amendment bill in Parliament on Monday.
The amendment bill was registered at the Parliament Secretariat on November 29.
“The Speaker has [already] put the amendment bill on the agenda. It will be tabled in Parliament on Monday,” Dahal said at a press meet in Chitwan.
Dahal, however, stopped short of saying how he is planning to deal with the main opposition CPN-UML, which has taken strong exception to the government move of registering the amendment bill.
The UML, which has been obstructing House proceedings over the amendment bill since it was registered, has maintained that it is against national interest and demanded that the government withdraw the bill.
About reports that his government is planning to hold local level elections under the existing structure, PM Dahal said the government “is certainly planning” to conduct local elections but under the new structure. He also dismissed reports that major parties have reached an understanding to hold local polls under the existing structure.
Amid growing confusion over way forward, PM Dahal on Tuesday had invited Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at Baluwatar where they were said to have agreed, in principle, to keep the amendment bill inactive and prepare for local level polls.
