Oli, US envoy discuss politics
Oli, US envoy discuss politicsUS Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B Teplitz called on CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and discussed the latest political situation.
According to Subas Nembang, deputy Parliamentary Party leader, the ambassador had enquired about the obstruction in Parliament by the main opposition over the constitution amendment bill.
Oli reportedly responded that the constitution amendment process and obstruction in Parliament are both internal matters of Nepal, about which foreign diplomats should refrain from making remarks.
Nembang said Teplitz was particularly interested about the UML’s position on constitution amendment.
“We told the US ambassador that the constitution amendment proposal is against the will of the Nepali people. The UML will not support it any cost. But we are ready to help in constitution implementation.”
According to an embassy spokesperson, the ambassador said the United States believed the proposed constitutional amendment is a matter for the Nepali people to decide.
The embassy stated that the ambassador discussed with the UML chair how the United States can support economic growth and political stability in Nepal. The United States “believes that a broadly inclusive political accommodation can optimise Nepal’s success”.
