Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pandey on Wednesday urged all concerned to remain alert to ensure the rights of the Muslim community. 

Inaugurating a workshop organised to collect feedback on the Muslim Commission Bill, Minister Pandey underlined the need for concrete suggestions from all concerned. 

Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Local Development Shree Prasad Jabegu highlighted the need of meaningful feedbacks to make the bill complete and sustainable. 

Chairman of Social Justice and Human Rights Committee of the Legislature-Parliament, Sushil Kumar Shrestha, said the bill was in the process of revision for making it in line with the principle of proportional representation and inclusion. 

Lawmaker Mohammed Mokhtar Ahamad called for revising the bill in order to ensure the rights of the Muslim Community. 

Former Supreme Court justice Tahir Ali Ansari said the Muslim Commission is going to be formed as a constitutional body for the welfare of the Muslim Community and calling for support and cooperation from all. 

Journalist Rahamatulla Miya stressed the need for revising the bill so as to use it as a means of empowering the Muslim community as per the spirit of the constitution. 

The population of Muslims who reside in over 70 districts in the country is approximately 1.2 million. 

Muslims mostly reside in Banke, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Siraha, Arghakhanchi and Gorkha districts.

This community which has a lesser access to education and health facilities owns agriculture and business as major occupations for livelihood. The government had on May 21, 2012 in course of addressing the demands of the Muslim agitation formed the National Muslim Commission.
