Visitors to the Tourism and Agriculture Promotion Fair, currently ongoing in Dharagol, Jhapa, had the opportunity to sit in on a literary meet. Unlike, most of the many other tourism fairs held around the country—where musical performances are the highlights—the Dharagol fair invited writers and poets to recite their gazals and poetry to the crowd.
Poet Munaraj Sharma, one of the organisers of the event said,
“There are usually musical performances in a fair. But with this event, we wanted to showcase that literary events are also appreciated by the audiences.” The event was attended by literary figures like Birat Kirati, Abhagi Theguwa, Lokendra Banjara, Mechi Putra, Krishna Baral, and many more. The chief guest of the event, Sarjak Chandra Bhandari, also sang some of his popular songs at the meet.
The fair, which aims to promote Dharagol as tourism destination, was inaugurated by State minister for Education Dhanamaya BK, on Dec 16.
The fair also saw the launch of Suman Lepcha’s anthology of stories, Baluwako Ghar.
