3-year-old girl dies, gran injured in rhino attack
Dec 26, 2016-
A three-year-old girl died while her grandmother was seriously injured when they were attacked by a rhino at Kawasoti Municiapality-15 in Nawalparasi district on Sunday.
The Kawasoti Area Police Office said the rhino from Chitwan National Park
(CNP) had attacked Soyata Mahato and her grandmother, Buddi Kumari Mahato, outside their home in the morning.
Soyata died while she was being rushed to hospital. Her 70-year-old grandmother was taken to Chitwan for treatment.
This is the fourth human death caused by a wildlife attack near CNP buffer zone in Nawalparasi in two months.
On November 25, Aasmati Magar of Dumbkibas-7 was killed by a tiger.
Concerned villagers said the incidence of wildlife attacks has increased
because the CNP authority has not built a proper defence system to keep animals from entering human settlements. They claimed the electrical fences, which were installed in some areas eight years earlier, were out of order.
