Banda in Far West over recent ‘killings’ of cows

- Post Report, DHANGADHI

Dec 26, 2016-

Various Hindu organisations enforced a banda in the farwestern districts on Sunday demanding the authorities to investigate into Wednesday’s incident in which three dozen dead cows were discovered at Bhyagutepani in Kailali district.

The protesting organisations have claimed that the incident was a premeditated act. The banda mostly affected the districts of Kailali, Kanchanpur and Bajhang. Transportation service and marketplaces remained shut throughout the day.

In Bajhang, the sister organisations of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, staged a protest rally at the district headquarters. The rally participants forced the local shops and other businesses to close their establishments.

Chief District Officer of Kailali Govinda Rijal said police were on to the case and that one suspect has been arrested.

Investigation so far suggests that the dead cows were brought from the neighbouring district of Kanchanpur in a truck that was hired by Beltkot Municipality, added Rijal.

The truck driver is being held for questioning and the samples collected from the dead cows have been sent to Kathmandu to determine the cause of their death.
