Some of the professors and faculty members had opposed the ouster of Dr KP Singh as the dean and appointment of Dr Agrawal to the post following a hunger strike by Dr Govinda KC. All the academic programmes at the institute had been shut as the faculty members went on strike. The agitated faculties had then padlocked the Dean’s Office, forcing Dr Agrawal to work from a different location.
The agreement reached between IoM officials and its faculties states that they will bring the dean appointment criteria set by Dr Ramesh Kanta Adhikari-led committee to open discussion and TU senate will immediately endorse the criteria. The two sides also agreed that any decision that would have long-term repercussion for institute should be taken collectively. Dr Agrawal said they would hold talks with TU officials on the dean appointment criteria soon.
