Bara district commander of Tarai Mukti Morcha (Jwala), an armed Tarai outfit, has been arrested from Raxaul, India.
Indian police arrested Bijay Patel, a permanent resident of Pheta in Bara, from Raxaul on December 20. The Indian authority later handed over him to Nepal Police.
The 40-year-old Patel, who was on the most wanted list of Nepal Police, had been living in Raxaul area.
He was handed over to the security personnel from Central Regional Police Office in Hetauda. Patel has been remanded into custody for investigation.
Police claimed Patel was involved in various criminal activities including murder and extortion.
Police records show that Patel was involved in the murder of Pradip Timilsina, a school teacher, at Pheta VDC-1 in 2009. The victim was shot dead while he was
returning his home at Kalaiya VDC-10 from school.
“Patel’s case is pending in the court. So he has been taken into custody for investigation. He is also accused of extortion charge,” said Police Inspector Khagendra Dhamala.
According to police, Sunil Jayaswal, the Bara-Parsa commander of the outfit, was also involved in Timilsina’s murder. Jayaswal, who was also arrested from India, is serving jail term.
