400 hA land freed from clutches of encroachers
Jan 2, 2017- Encroachment on public properties at Kunhun and Babiyachaur VDCs in Myagdi were removed with public participation.
Around 400 hectares of land in the two villages had been encroached. It has now been removed and brought under the community forest’s authority. The District Forest Office on Saturday held a ceremony at Kunhun village to make an announcement that public land encroachment in the two VDCs were removed.
The announcement was made at the presence of former state minister and lawmaker, Nardevi Pun, Assistant Chief District Officer Yadavnath Acharya, District Forest Officer, Sukhlal Prasad Jaiswal and Soil Conservation Official Diwakar Poudel, among others. The Community Forest Consumers’ Group’s representatives pledged to check encroachment and plant tree saplings on the properties that were freed from illegal occupants.
Assistant Forest Officer Chandramani Sapkota said that the illegally occupied forest areas were reclaimed with the help of locals.
He added it was the first time where locals were used to remove the encroachment instead of police.
