Mexican state-run energy firm Pemex called on protesters on Tuesday to stop blocking gasoline stations and attacking pipeline workers, warning that it could hit supplies. Pemex urged political and civil groups to stop the daily protests, saying in a statement that gasoline and diesel supplies could be “seriously affected”. The company also condemned “violent actions” that have damaged service stations and said such vandalism can lead to the suspension of sales. Small protests have taken place in several states, with Mexicans blocking highways as well as they vent against a 20.1 percent increase in gasoline prices that took effect on January 1. The government said it would not reverse course on the prices, insisting that the increase was a necessary first step before it lets the market dictate how much drivers will pay as part of a sweeping energy reform.
