The Mahuregadhi villagers have blocked the mid-hill highway demanding that the village should be granted a village council status. Many passengers have been
left stranded because of the protest.
On Sunday, the Mahuregadhi locals staged a demonstration in Diktel. Udaya Bahadur Karki, chairman of the committee leading the protest, warned of intensifying the protest if their demand is not addressed by revising the report that the LLRC recently submitted to the government.
The protesters also submitted memorandum of their demands to Chief District Officer Chandra Bahadur Karki and Local Development Officer Nischalraj Pandey.
Karki said they were protesting to bring the attention of the Prime Minister’s Office and the LLRC to the original proposal of the LLRC’s technical committee of making Mahuregadhi the centre of the proposed village council comprising the VDCs of Buipa, Bijayakharka, Rajapani, Nunthala, Kharpa and Kubhinde.
The technical committee had proposed 10 village councils and two municipalities in Khotang.
