All VDCs in Ramechhap district are now linked with roads with a dirt track opened recently to connect remote Durgaun VDC with the district headquarters, Manthali.
The villagers of Duragaun were excited when a tractor reached the village for the first time on Sunday.
Local teacher Janardan Ghimire said now the people in the village could easily transport daily essentials, and most importantly, construction materials to rebuild houses that were destroyed in the 2015 earthquake.
The villagers had raised donations from every household to construct the dirt track. VDC Secretary Lekhnath Chaulagain said locals have made efforts to connect the VDC with the road from Khaping. “This year the road was extended up to Duragaun VDC office with an investment of around Rs 1.1 million,” Chaulagain said.
Duragaun VDC is also going to be connected with another road from Saipu in the near future.
Local Gopal Sunuwar said they do not have to walk anymore to carry daily essentials from Saipu and Dhobi.
“We had carried relief materials from Dhobi bazaar after the quake,” he said.
Engineer Dilli Bahadur Adhikari of the District Development Committee said all of the VDCs in Ramechhap are now connected with roads now. There are 45 VDCs and two municipalities in the district.
