Jan 10, 2017- A 22-year-old woman was found dead in a suspicious circumstance at her in-law’s house in Piparabhagawanpur-2 of Rautahat district on Saturday. The incident came to light after the woman’s parents lodged a police complaint on Sunday, claiming that she was murdered over a dowry dispute.
Lalmuni Devi Sah, who hails from Motihari district of India, was found dead in her room on Saturday afternoon.
She had allegedly hung herself while her mother-in-law, Pramila Devi, had gone out shopping.
According to Pramila Devi’s statement to police, she discovered her daughter-in-law hanging from the ceiling when she returned home and her 13-year-old son had cut the body loose from the noose prepared out of a sari.
Lalmuni Devi’ mother, Rita Devi, however, claims that her daughter was murdered. She said that her son-in-law, Santosh, had made a threatening call demanding IRs 500,000 on Friday, a day before her daughter’s death.
Santosh and Lalmuni Devi were married 10 months ago. Rita Devi said they had provided IRs1 million in dowry when they married off their daughter. Santosh is on the run after the incident while police have detained his mother, Pramila Devi, and father, Rajendra, for questioning. Police said they were awaiting Lalmuni Devi’s post-mortem report from Gaur Hospital.
