The Central Investigation Bureau said on Wednesday that the suspects were arrested from Kavre on Tuesday night. Deputy Inspector General of Police Nawaraj Silwal confirmed the arrests, without divulging details. A source at the CIB said the arrestees were “the mules” and not the owner of the gold seized at the TIA on January 5.
“They will perhaps lead us to the actual owner of the gold,” said the source.
A CIB team had nabbed Gopal Bahadur Shahi upon his arrival at the TIA from the UAE with the gold haul. Also arrested during the operation were Dinbandhu Thapa of Morang and Santosh Kafle Shahi of Dhanusha. Police said the duo had reached the airport to receive the gold.
