Waling Fest slated to open on Jan 26
The 16th edition of the Waling Festival, featuring a host of events ranging from trade fair, sporting competition, cultural shows and food festival to agricultural exhibition and boating, is slated to begin at Waling in Syangja district on January 26.The 16th edition of the Waling Festival, featuring a host of events ranging from trade fair, sporting competition, cultural shows and food festival to agricultural exhibition and boating, is slated to begin at Waling in Syangja district on January 26.
The 11-day event is being jointly organised by the Waling Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The Nepal Tourism Board is the promoter of the event.
The festival will showcase regional farm and industrial products, locally produced fish and cuisines from more than 300 stalls. Other attractions of the event are cultural shows, helicopter tour, paragliding, volleyball competition and boating, the organiser said.
Highlights of the festival are ostrich exhibition and display and sales of agricultural products and equipment for which the organiser has provided 20 stalls free of cost. Likewise, another 10 stalls have been reserved for handicraft exhibitors.
“The event is being organised to promote the district’s agricultural and tourism products,” said Shobhakanta Poudel, president of the Waling Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The organiser expects a footfall of 300,000 and business transactions worth Rs8 million during the festival. “Music concerts and live performances are key attractions at the event to draw visitors,” said FNCCI Vice-President Dinesh Shrestha.
The event will feature stalls where local products, automobiles and products of financial institution, among others, will be available. Electronic products such as refrigerator and television, information technology products, computer and smartphone will also be displayed at the expo.
The organiser said that all basic amenities such communication services, health services and security would be provided at the fair. Tickets are priced at Rs70 each for general people and Rs50 each for students. Visitors will receive a Nepal Telecom GSM prepaid sim card with a Rs50 balance free of cost.
