A travel photo exhibit and musical show—titled Yatri 2.0—which aims to generate funds for cataract surgeries is going to be held at Bikalpa Art Center, Pulchowk from January 20. 

Yatri, an initiation by photographer, traveler and high-school educator Kaushal Sapkota, was able to generate more than Rs 250,000 for the Winter Drive of Nepal Share last year. Following the success of the program, this year’s exhibition will try to generate funds for a targeted 100 cataract surgeries. 

The exhibition will feature 25 photographs by Kaushal Sapkota taken during his journey across Nepal, India, Pakistan and the United States along with five photographs by fellow globetrotters Mahesh Dahal, Pradeep Bashyal and Jaya Jung Mahat. 

The unique exhibit will also witness an infusion of music and poetry. The three-day event will see Sufi performance by Ankit Babu Adhikari, jazz performance by Sneha Yonjan and poetry recital by Alok Lamsal and Avijeet ‘Musafir’ Das. 

Speaking about the exhibit, Sapkota said, “If we can make small changes from our side to spread positivity and help people in need, that’s more than enough to contribute for the betterment of the society. This is a small contribution to our ecosystem.” He added, “Every year, we plan to use our vacation by contributing towards the betterment of lives of people. And the most beautiful aspect about the exhibition is that we are getting to contribute through art and passion.” 

Though it takes only 1,200 Nepali Rupees for a cataract surgery, cataract still remains one of the major reasons for blindness in Nepal. Proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to Project Make Me See and to their collaboration with the Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital in Lahan. 

The exhibition will continue till January 22.
