Kalaiya on protest to press for sub-metropolis status

The Kalaiya residents have disowned the proposition made by the Local Level Restructuring Commission of splitting some wards from the municipality and merging them to the proposed Simara-Jitput Sub-metropolis.
“Thousands of people will be affected if Kalaiya is divided. Kalaiya must be kept intact and granted a sub-metropolis status,” said Binod Barai, acting chair of the Bara Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
To press their demand, Kalaiya locals also staged a demonstration, which was led by the Bara Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The protesters also submitted a memorandum of their demands to the District Administration Office.
The LLRC has proposed one sub-metropolitan, five municipalities and seven village councils in Bara district.
Mahuregadhi locals in Khotang continue stir
Mahuregadhi village in Khotang have been protesting against the LLRC report for the last 12 days. The villagers continued to obstruct the Mid-Hill and Sagarmatha highways on Wednesday, demanding a village council status for Mahuregadhi. The agitating villagers have claimed that Mahuregadhi was not given the village council status in the LLRC report despite the proposal submitted by the technical committee.
Meanwhile, another protest has sparked in Bhoksingtar in the district against the LLRC report. The locals halted the transportation service in the area on Wednesday, demanding that Indrenipokhari should be named the centre of the proposed village council.
Protest against the LLRC report has also continued in Thansing village of Nuwakot district. The villagers stage demonstration and blocked the vehicular movement along the Dhikure-Kathmandu road for the fourth day, demanding village council status for Likhu.
