The employees of Nuwakot District Development Committee staged a pen-down strike on Sunday to protest vandalism and misbehaviour against some of their colleagues by the protesters of the Local Level Restructuring Commission report.

The agitating DDC employees have decided to continue their pen-down strike against Friday’s incident until Wednesday. They have also submitted a memorandum to the chief district officer demanding security.

The protest against the LLRC report had turned violent on Friday. At least a dozen people were injured in a clash at Bidur, the district headquarters of Nuwakot. The protesters had also vandalised the DDC building and allegedly misbehaved with some of the employees.

Meanwhile, the people protesting the LLRC report declared Khanigaun, Chaunghada, Suryamati and Thansingh VDCs of eastern Nuwakot as Likhu village council.

Binod Pathak, a Nepali Congress leader from Thansingh VDC, said that they announced their own village council because the LLRC did not address their demand.

The agitating villagers living in Likhu region have been claiming that the LLRC did not incorporate the recommendation of its technical committee that had  agreed to their demand.

VDC in Suryagadhi village council. The LLRC has recommended two municipalities and 10 village councils in Nuwakot.

Transportation service along the Chhahare-Kathmandu road in the district is shut for the past one week because of the ongoing protest against the LLRC report.

The protesters have agreed to let the schools in Likhu region to operate their daily classes from Monday.
