MUGLIN road upgradation: 35 pc work complete
Jan 26, 2017-The Narayangadh-Muglin road upgradation project has completed 35 percent of the work in the last 21 months.
The key route, connecting the country’s eastern and western parts with Pokhara and Kathmandu, is being widened under the Nepal-India Regional Trade and Transport Project. The work is set to be completed by August this year.
Three construction companies have taken the responsibility of completing the project within the deadline of August this year.
Shiva Khanal, engineer of the project, said they were currently cutting cliffs to expand the road at Setidhovan and Gaighat areas and working for grade construction of the road.
“We have started gravelling the road and soon start blacktopping the surface,” said Khanal. The road will be expanded to accommodate double-lane traffic after the project is completed.
The World Bank has provided Rs 2.9 billion aid to upgrade the road that was built with Chinese assistance four decades ago. The Narayangadh-Muglin road is the busiest in the country; more than 20,000 vehicles ply the road every day. To speed up the work, the road is being closed for four and-a-half hours daily.
