Nuwakot grapples with fresh turmoil
Jan 28, 2017-
Protests against the report of the Local Level Restructuring Commission (LLRC) have spread throughout Nuwakot with the residents of Jiling, Belkot, Ratamate and Dui Pipal VDCs joining the fray. They announced a banda in the district on Friday, demanding that the four VDCs should be granted a municipality status while delineating the local administrative units.
A large part of Nuwakot was already reeling under an indefinite banda enforced by the people in Likhu region, whose demand is a village council status.
The latest banda called by the inhabitants of Jiling, Belkot, Ratamate and Dui Pipal VDCs has hit even those areas that were exempt from the impact of the protest by the Likhu locals.
Even the neighbouring district of Rasuwa has felt the heat of the protests in Nuwakot. Vehicles plying the Rasuwa-Kathmandu road could not get past the
Nuwakot section as the protesters obstructed the road at various points, including Kashitar, Kolputar, and Barahi.
In its report submitted to the government, the LLRC has recommended two municipalities and 10 village councils in Nuwakot.
