Literature: Tool for social change
- Rolpa to host a monthly literary event—Srijana Sangam—to educate and encourage locals
Feb 2, 2017-
In an effort to promote literature in rural villages of Rolpa, one of the district’s literary associations, Lalit Literature Academy, plans to organise a monthly literary programme, Srijana Sangam. The programme has kicked off from Gairigaun.
The founding chairperson of the Academy, DB Tuhuru, shared, “Literature plays an important role in driving social change. We want to organise this monthly event in order to stimulate conscience and consciousness among locals.” He added, “We don’t want to limit literary activities merely to cities and towns, we want to take it to every nook and cranny.”
The Academy has also established its branches in various villages as a part of the programme. Speaking at an event, chairperson of the Gairigaun branch, Kul Abasesh, said, “We have been organising various literary activities in our village for some time now. We recently started poetry recitation as well as discussion programmes with literary figures based out of the headquarters which has been very successful.”
Ropla currently boasts at least a dozen literary organisations that engage more than 60 litterateurs from the district.
Srijana Sangam will be held every second Saturday of the month.
