The reconstruction works have been affected in Sindhuli district after the VDC secretaries started a protest, demanding to hold the local level election, increase allowances and facilities, and mobilise additional technicians in the VDC offices.
Service seekers have been deprived of government services due to the protest of VDC secretaries across the country since Wednesday.
Gyan Bahadur BK, a quake survivor from Sitapati, complained that quake victims waiting for the second tranche of the housing reconstruction aid could not make necessary documents at the VDC offices due to the protest of VDC secretaries. “I could not get recommendation from the VDC office,” he said.
The ongoing protest has affected quake victims of 50 other VDCs including Ratamata and Bhuwaneshwori. Achyut Dahal of Belghari said he had been struggling to get a citizenship certificate. “I came here all the way from Kathmandu to make citizenship certificate.
But, the VDC secretary has not provided recommendation,” said Dahal.
Rohit Karki, chairman of Sindhuli VDC Secretary Welfare Protection Centre Nepal, said that they would not resume work until their demands were met. “We have submitted all the stamps of the VDC offices to the District Development Committee after the centre issued a circular to the VDC secretaries working in all districts,” said Karki, who also the VDC secretary.
