Nepali language and literature discussed in Chitwan
A discussion pivoting around the use and current discourse of Nepali language and linguistics took place at the Chamber of Commerce premises in Chitwan over the weekend.A discussion pivoting around the use and current discourse of Nepali language and linguistics took place at the Chamber of Commerce premises in Chitwan over the weekend. The event, part of the Standard Nepali Language Campaign, saw scholars discuss on the Brihat Nepali Sabdakosh (which was recently invalidated by Pragya Pratishthan) and the role of Tribhuwan University as well as other universities in preserving and promoting Nepali language.
The programme saw presence of Prof Dr Devi Gautam, a Nepali language and linguistics professor at Tribhuwan University, chairperson of the campaign, Prof Dr Khagendra Prasad Luintel, vice-chairperson of the campaign Bharat Kumar Bhattarai and Kapil Lamichhane, among others, who talked about how Nepali language is taught in universities and what role governmental and non-governmental organisations can play in preserving the language and literature.
Moreover, the programme also saw the foundation of a 43-member regional committee under the chairmanship of Dr Eknarayan Poudel in a bid to enhance the efficacy of the campaign.
