The LLRC in its report submitted to the government has recommended 719 local units.
In a consultation meeting with lawmakers from Province 2, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Shankar Nayak said that 25 local units could be added in eight districts of Province 2 to address the concerns raised by the Morcha whose lawmakers, however, were not present in the meeting. The Morcha which has refused to accept the LLRC report, saying the recommendations were made without consulting them and that population should be made the basis while restructuring local units. “Adding some local units in the districts from Province 2 could be a solution,” Nayak said during the meeting. The SLMM, an alliance of seven Madhes-based parties, has been demanding that the number of local units in the Tarai should be increased to make it 45 percent of the total units.
