The main opposition CPN-UML has criticised the government for its recent activities against the independent foreign policy, national security and national interest. The main opposition CPN-UML has criticised the government for its recent activities against the independent foreign policy, national security and national interest.
Concluding the two-day politburo meeting on Thursday, the party has expressed serious concern over government’s “anti-national” activities, including the agreement to allow foreign armed security forces at the country’s only international airport and weakening the role of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
The party has also raised concern over the delay in implementing agreements signed with the neighbours in the past. The UML was referring to the agreements signed by the government under its chairman KP Sharma Oli with China.
In a press statement on Thursday, party Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said the politburo meeting decided to focus on establishing the UML the number one party through the upcoming elections and directed all its rank and file to work accordingly.
The statement has also said that the main opposition was still with the party’s previous stance on the amendment proposal tabled in Parliament.
However, Secretary Pradip Gyawali as well as other leaders have claimed that the UML would let the amendment proposal be discussed in Parliament if the government announces the date of local polls. Protesting preparations to allow excavations in the Chure range, the UML has urged the government not to let such activities. It also raised objection to some illusive and wrong statements of party’s central member Radha Krishna Mainali.
