President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that universities and higher education institutions should give priority to the courses that produce capable human resources.

Addressing the 14th convocation ceremony of Pokhara University in Lekhnath on Monday, President Bhandari said it was sad that the country’s universities were not producing enough graduates who could compete in the international arena.

“In today’s age of globalisation, it is important for our educational institutions to provide education with a purpose of producing human resources who are capable of fulfilling the country’s real requirements, who are saleable in the international market,” she said.

The President added only well-educated and skilled youths could propel the country towards the path of development.

Around 5,000 graduating students were conferred degree certificates on the occasion.

President Bhandari wished the new graduates all the best and urged them to dedicate themselves to the service of the country and the people.

Minister for Education Dhaniram Poudel, also the pro-chancellor of the university, emphasised on the need of enhancing the  quality of education in the country.

Vice Chancellor Prof Chiranjibi Prasad Sharma said the main objective of the university was to make the country’s academic environment more healthy, dignified, and result oriented by promoting quality education and competition among students. And to that end, he said, “the Pokhara University has brought various programmes to improve and streamline teaching methods, examinations and administrative works.”
