Tsering defied all odds stay ahead of professional field to card second successive under-par card—two-under 70—in the second round of the fourth event of Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17. His two-round total of eight-under 144 was six shots better than his nearest rival Sanjay Lama, who shot even-par 72 on Tuesday and two-under 142 total. Rabi Khadka carded one-over 73 for a total of even-par 144 and lie in third place.
Top ranked Nepali golfer Shivaram Shrestha shot even-par 72 for a total of one-over 144 and stays in fourth position. Bhuwan Nagarkoti shot four-over 76 for a total of two-over 146. Dhana Bahadur Thapa had one-over 73 today for a total of four-over 148. Deepak Acharya is at five-over 149 after carding three-over 75 on Tuesday. Bal Bhadra Rai scored five-over 77 for a total of six-over 150. Amateur golfer Tanka Bahadur Karki and Jayaram Shrestha were at seven-over 141. Both carded four-over 76 in the second round.
Tsering started with birdie on the first hole, earned two more shots on fifth and seventh before dropping a shot on the par-3 eighth for two-under 34 in his front nine. On the back nine, the amateur golfer sank birdies on 11th and 17th against bogeys on 14th and 15th holes for even-par 36.
Lama shot even-par 36 on both halves. On the front nine, missed a par on the sixth hole but sank a birdie on the seventh hole. On the back nine, he made birdies on 11th and 12th holes but made bogeys on 14th and 17th holes. Khadka started with the birdie on the first hole but dropped shot on the very next hole. He then went on to make bogeys on fifth, sixth and seventh holes for a three-over 39 on the front nine. On the back nine he sank birdies on 11th and 14th holes for a two-under 34.
Nepal No 1 Shivaram Shrestha sank birdies on second, fifth and sixth but dropped shot on first, seventh and eighth holes for even-par 36 on his front nine. On his back nine, he sank a birdie on the 15th hole against a bogey on the 14th for another even-par 36. Nagarkoti shot one-over 36 on the front nine and three-over 39 on the back nine.
In all, 21 pros and six amateur golfers made the cut including Rame Thapa, Pashupati Sharma, Yelamber Singh Adhikari, Surya Prasad Sharma, Purna Prasad Sharma, Deepak Magar, Dhruba KC, CB Bhandari, Krishna Man Rajbahak, Pradeep Kumar Lama, Ram Krishna Shrestha, Kumar Kami and Shiva Ram Poudel. Among the amateurs, Tashi Ghale, Prithivi Malla, Mithun Rai, and Sukra Bahadur Rai survived 36-hole cut.
