Himalayan Sherpa Club edged Jhapa XI 2-1 in extra time to enter the semi-finals of the 19th TIlottama Gold Cup football tournament on Saturday.

At the Anfa Technical Centre, African recruit Alex scored a 110th minute winner to seal the last eight spot for the Sherpas who had taken the lead in the 37th minute through Chetan Kumar Tharu.

Jhapa hit back three minutes later through Sanjog Rai who headed home a cross from Nishant Khadka. Sherpas missed several goal scoring chances but their luck finally struck in the last minute of the game when Alex headed a pass from another African recruit Alen. In the quarter-finals, Sherpas will take on the winners of Monday’s match between Sankata Club and Tribhuvan Army Club. On Sunday, Rupandehi XI will meet Dharan FC. (PR)
