The play tells the story of a middle-class family and explores a dispute between a couple.
The husband (played by Akash Magar) is frustrated with his wife (Prembarsha Khadka), who has a penchant for popular Hindi serials, as he feels that she doesn’t pay attention to him when he comes home after a tiring day at work.
In exploring the husband-wife relationship, the play touches upon issues such as modernity, its impacts on the Nepali society, patriarchy and unemployment.
Speaking about the play, director Shrestha said, “I wrote the script some five years ago based on an incident I heard from a friend while we were traveling in a bus. At first listen I thought it is a common problem in today’s Nepali households and decided upon turning it into a play.”
Along with Magar and Khadka, the play features actors Kushal Pandey, Savir Churaute, Sharada Adhikari, Rojina Shrestha and Roshan Subedi.
Maan vs Mati, which runs for 70 minutes, will be staged, every evening at 5:15 PM (except for Wednesdays), till March 18.
