After a heated debate among leaders over the options, the central committee meeting of the party on Friday decided to go for cow as the electoral symbol, said the party leaders.
The faction close to Pashupati Shumsher Rana and Prakash Chandra Lohani, who are from the former RPP, were for retaining plough, while leaders from the Kamal Thapa faction had sought to continue with cow as the symbol.
The meeting also decided to hold a national unity campaign from June 21 to 25 across the country, said leader Rajaram Shrestha.
The door-to-door campaign would begin from Gorkha, Jhapa, Kanchanpur and Kathmandu Valley simultaneously. Welcoming the government’s decision to hold the local polls on May 14, the party urged the government to address the genuine demands of the Madhes-based parties.
