The party, which had announced its plan to get out on the hustings for local level elections set for May 14, decided on Wednesday to cancel its “Ekata Yatra” over security concerns in the aftermath of clashes in Saptari on Monday in which three supporters of the Madhes-based parties died in police firing. The fourth protester who was injured in the incident died on Wednesday.
Scores were injured in the incident. The party had earlier announced its national unity procession in various districts for five days starting on March 21 simultaneously from Gorkha, Kathmandu, Kanchanpur and Jhapa.
“The campaign has been put off due to serious tension in Tarai districts,” the party said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
