The event saw staging of plays that revolved around women’s rights issues.
The event, held at three major thoroughfares in the Valley—Patan Durbar Square, Basantapur Durbar Square and the Sherpa Mall—saw a considerable footfall of locals and tourists alike.
One of the plays staged during the event, Sikri, portrayed the hardships of women who fall victim to international human trafficking. At another venue, the theatre artists enacted an instance of domestic violence perpetrated on underage and underprivileged children, specifically, those that are exploited for child labour. Both these plays ended with the actors stating the penalty for the crimes in Nepali laws.
Speaking about the event, president of WEO Tulasi Paudel said, “The involvement of the locals and their appreciation towards our efforts today was overwhelming.” She added, “We aim to ensure the education, health, political and employment as well as security rights of deprived women and children of Nepal in the days to come and we also have plans to host such awareness programmes and projects in different locations of the country, especially around the border areas.”
The programme was funded by the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation.
