Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi and former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai are visiting India to participate in the third edition of Counter Terrorism Conference 2017 in New Delhi.
The three-day conference, being organised by the India Foundation, starts on March 14. Visiting DPM Nidhi, India’s Vice President Hamid Ansari, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar will address the inaugural session of the event. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickre-mesinghe will address the gathering via Skype.
The conference will see paper presentations on a wide range of issues on tackling terrorism.
During his stay in Delhi, Nidhi is also expected to meet several Indian leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the Nepal Embassy in Delhi, efforts are underway to fix meetings with PM Modi, Union Home Minister Singh and Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj. This is Nidhi’s third visit to India since the formation of government under CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in August last year.
Former PM Baburam Bhattarai is arriving in Delhi on March 14. He is a key note speaker in the special session titled ‘Bullet to Ballot’. According to his aide Biswodeep Pandey, Bhattarai is also expected to hold political meetings in Delhi.
He will also attend a few other public events in Delhi and attend party’s programme in Goa.
This will be Bhattarai’s first visit since severing ties with CPN (Maoist Centre) and forming a new party. Bhattarai had earlier cancelled his India trip at the last minute, citing the internal political situation.
