High-tension line concerns college
Tejganga Multiple Campus in Panauti, Kavre, has renewed its call to remove the high-tension line above its under-construction building after 17-year-old Santosh Thapa was electrocuted recently.Tejganga Multiple Campus in Panauti, Kavre, has renewed its call to remove the high-tension line above its under-construction building after 17-year-old Santosh Thapa was electrocuted recently.
The campus had filed an application at the NEA office on July 1, 2016, requesting to remove the 11,000-volt line. Ambhubhawani Karki, the campus chief, said the local NEA office has not heeded their request, though the NEA central office had agreed to remove the power line back in October.
Dil Kishor Goit, the chief of the NEA Banepa Distribution Centre, said that they were unable to address the concern raised by the campus due to the obstruction from the locals.
He also claimed that the campus had violated the building standards by starting the construction close to the high-tension line, and that the Panauti Municipality has issued an injunction to stop the construction immediately.
Karki said that the construction was halted because of a issue with the building design, not because of the building’s proximity with the power line.
The building design is in the process of approval, he added.
