Snowfall affects life in eastern mountains

In Sankhuwasabha, the vehicular movement along Nundhaki-Guphapokhari road, Basantapur Tutedeurali and Guphapokhari-Taplejung came to a halt on Saturday after the heavy snowfall. Locals in Jaljala, Nundhaki, Makalu, Pawakhola, Hatiya, Kimathanka, Chepuwa and other areas are affected by the snowfall.
Hima Khanal of Nundhaki said the region received up to three feet of snow, affecting the public mobility.
Police Inspector Ganeshman Shrestha said sudden drop in temperatures accompanied by cold winds has affected locals.
“Contacts have been severed with settlements in the northern mountainous areas,” he said.
In Tehrathum, snowfall affected life in Paketdanda, Chauki, Tinjure, Panchpokhari, Mangalbare, Gufa, and Suke areas.
The vehicular movement along the Basantapur-Dovan road has been obstructed after the snowfall.
In Ilam, the higher belts including Sandakpur, Kalpokhari and Chhintapur have been covered with snow. Pasang Sherpa of Jaubari said tourists travelling to Sandakpur have been stuck in Jaubari due to the inclement weather conditions. The region received up to four feet of snowfall on Saturday evening, he said.
