New Indian envoy meets Deuba, Oli
Mar 28, 2017-
New Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Sigh Puri has engaged himself into political parleys, soon after assuming office at the Lainchaur mission.
Hours after presenting his credentials on Sunday, Puri called on Nepali President Sher Bahadur Deuba and later met over “family dinner” where families of both Deuba and Puri were present, said a diplomatic source.
During the meeting that lasted over two hours, Deuba apprised Indian envoy Puri about the latest political situation, status of constitution implementation, among others. Puri assured the NC chief that he would put in his best effort to maintain friendly ties between the two countries.
On Monday, the Indian envoy met Chairman of the main opposition CPN-UML KP Oli.
According to an aid to Oli, the UML chair elaborated the ups and downs of Nepal-India ties and current state of Nepali politics.
Drawing parallels between Nepal-India ties and some of the incidents of eastern philosophy, Oli told the new Indian envoy that “after a long struggle we have brought a new inclusive constitution that has guaranteed the participation of several communities and groups”.
“If there were any shortcomings, we will keep on correcting them,” the aide quoted Oli as explaining to Puri the UML’s position on issue of constitution implementation.
In response, the Indian ambassador said he would extend all possible support to strengthen relations between the two neighbours.
