Surya Nepal Kathmandu Open: Magar clinches trophy

Magar never relinquished the lead he had from the very first round to secure his fourth career title. He carded even-par 68 in the fourth and final round on Friday for a total score of five-under 267. Magar earned Rs 85,000.
Shrestha, who also carded even-par 68 on Friday, finished in second with the total score of one-over 273 and earned Rs 58,000. Nagarkoti shot two-over 70 for a total of three-over 275 to end up in third. Nagarkoti received Rs 45,000. Surya Prasad Sharma (71) and Dhana Bahadur Thapa (70) finished tied for fourth and got Rs 37,500 each.
Sanjay Lama (72) ended up in sixth with a total score of seven-over 279 and earned Rs 30,000. Bikash Adhikari (70) and Rabi Khadka (69) finished tied for seventh and received Rs 23,750 each. Bhuwan Kumar Rokka took the ninth place and earned Rs 20,000 after his seven-over 75 saw his score swell to 10-over 282. Krishna Man Rajbahak (71) and Yelamber Singh Adhikari (70) were tied for 10th at 11-over 283. Both the golfers got Rs 17,000 each.
Magar shot two-under 32 on the front nine with birdies on the third and fourth holes. He sank a birdie on the 10th but had a double-bogey on the 14th to add to another bogey on the very next hole for a two-over 36 back nine score. Shrestha carded one-under 33 on the front nine with birdies on first, fourth and ninth against bogeys on fifth and seventh holes. On his way back, Shrestha suffered a double-bogey on the 11th hole but made amends with a birdie on 12th for one-over 35 score.
Nagarkoti carded two-over 36 on the front nine with a birdie on the fourth against bogeys on the third, sixth and seventh holes. On the back nine, Nagarkoti sank birdies on the 11th and 13th against bogeys on the 10th and 18th holes for an even-par 36.
Tanka Bahadur Karki claimed the amateur title after carding even-par 68 for a total of 17-over 289. Sukra Bahadur Rai shot a 71 for a total of 290. Overnight amateur leader Phuntsok N Lama shot 10-over 78 for a total of 23-over 295. In all 29 pros and 11 amateurs took part in the fifth event held under Surya Nepal Tour 2016-17.
