Landslide obstructs MUGLIN ROAD for nearly four hours
Apr 15, 2017-Vehicular movement along the Muglin-Narayangadh road section was disrupted for nearly four hours after a dry landslide struck the Charkilo area in Chitwan district on Friday morning.
The area had been witnessing minor landslides for the past few days. But on Friday, there was a landslide big enough to block the traffic, said Shiva Khanal, an engineer for the Muglin-Narayangadh Road Project.
“The landslide debris were cleared by noon and the traffic was resumed,” he said, adding that the area is still vulnerable to landslides.
The Chitwan District Administration Office (DAO) has put an emergency response team on a 24-hour duty along the highway.
“The team will be responsible for ensuring the traffic flow, for minimising road
accidents and dealing with emergencies,” said Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhatta, adding that those violating the traffic regulations along the highway will be punished.
On April 3, a rockslide at Ghumanue along the highway had crushed four vehicles, killing two people.
The highway is undergoing expansion works for the past two years. Only 45 percent
of the works have been completed so far.
