Govt issues ID cards To 3,300 KEP workers
The government has issued ‘Poor Identity Cards’ to the workers in the Karnali Employment Programme (KEP). Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, distributed the cards to 3,300 labourers of Soru, Khatyad, Mugum, Karmarong and Chhayanath Rara Municipality.The government has issued ‘Poor Identity Cards’ to the workers in the Karnali Employment Programme (KEP). Labourers without such ID cards are not allowed to work in the programme. Hansaraj Neupane, district officer of the KEP, said the programme also provided chequebooks to the labourers after opening bank accounts on their names.
The programme, with the annual budget of Rs70 million, has provided employment to impoverished families and help connect the rural villages with the road networks. According to Neupane, the workers will be provided their daily wages on the basis of the ID cards. (PR)
